FHA – International Work History Requirements

Question:

Our client has a 10-year work history in another country and worked remotely until 3 months ago. After leaving this position, they moved to a salary position here in the US and have been there for 2 months. Does this borrower need to be at their current job for 6 months?

Answer:

Where the employer is located does not matter as long as you can document the borrower’s previous 2-year work history. FHA has no special “time on the job” requirements when a borrower was previously employed by a company based outside of the US. The previous employer documentation must be in English or translated to English by a third-party service provider.
